January 2012 Virtue
This month, in our virtue kits, every child will be receiving a RED rubber band and a GREEN rubber band.
These are no ORDINARY rubber bands. These rubber bands are the SUPER TOOLS we are going to use this month.
We are going to be using these rubber band to help us CHANGE THE GAME.
STEP ONE:
When you know you should stop doing something, snap the RED rubber band.
-Use the color RED to remind you to STOP and use some self control.
-Take some time to think about what you were going to do and perhaps some of the consequences of those actions.
-Ask God for some help. Take a moment to talk to Him about what He would want you to do in that situation.
STEP TWO:
When you know what you should do instead, snap the GREEN rubber band.
-Use it as a reminder to DO WHAT YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD DO…that sounds like one of the Club 631 rules: “Do the Right Thing.”
STEP THREE:
Do the right thing so you don’t have to snap yourself again!
So, be a game changer. Use the rubber bands to help you learn the important lesson of self-control…and parents, you might want to grab a set of them for yourself! :)
EXAMPLE #1:
Here’s how it works…
Let’s say you start to fight over a video game controller…
Change how the game is played by tugging on the RED rubber band.
Take some time to think about what you SHOULD DO instead of fighting…
when you are ready to make the right choice…
give a tug on the GREEN rubber band…
and share the controller!
Congratulations, you’ve just used SELF CONTROL!
EXAMPLE #2:
Let’s say you want to “sneak” some of the chocolate coins your parents told you not to touch…
Change how the game is played by tugging on the RED rubber band.
Take some time to think about what you SHOULD DO instead of sneaking the candy you were told not to eat…
when you are ready to make the right choice…
give a tug on the GREEN rubber band…
and then do the right thing by asking for permission to have a piece of candy!
If your parents say “no”, continue to do the right thing by not arguing or having a bad attitude.
Congratulations, you’ve just used SELF CONTROL!
