What is Being Taught:
Junior High: We have been talking about God’s love and how he never gives up on us through his unconditional love. Last week we talked about God pursuing us even when we run away as we looked at Luke 15 and the story of the runawayson. The next couple of weeks we will be looking at the question “Is God’s love FAIR?” Ask your youth what they think……
Looked at the story of David and Bathsheba and started to ask about whether God can still use a sinner like King Davis who was said to be a Man after God’s Own Heart. What do you think, can David still be used? Next week we will resume the story of David and Bathsheba and continue to look deeper into the story. On Wednesday the 16th of March, we will be looking at the punishment that came in place due to David’s sin, but it is great how God still uses people even when they mess up.
Now we are looking at the redemptive love of Christ and how God forgave David for his sins, but it came with a tough punishment. He went through a rough patch, but God forgave him and loves him, and still uses him in the future even after such a big public sin. God can use us as well even though we are sinners and fall short of God’s Glory. God can use me and He can use you too.
Senior High: On Sunday Mornings we have been talking about bringing Christ into their communities and schools, but this can’t start to happen unless people can see Christ in their lives and the way that they live their lives out. So we have been asking the question “Is Christ the Center of their lives?” WIth this we have looked at the two main people/things that can keep Christ out of the center of their lives and that is “themselves and the world.” We have looked at the story of the Lost Son in Luke 15 and then the story of Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11 to see how ourselves and the worldly sins pull us from Christ, but also Christ redemptive love in all of this. Then this past week we looked at how we are to live for Christ through the Fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5 and ways to live and ways not to live holy lives as found in Colossians 3. Ask your students if they can tell you what they have been learning and quiz them to see if they can tell you all nine Fruits of the Spirit.
Sunday February 27th: Looked at ways that we can be more like Christ and in doing so, allow Christ truly become the center of our lives as we live in such a matter that he is being seen in our lives. We asked the question of do others see Christ being lived through our lives on a regular basis. In order to look at this more closely we took at look at Matthew 25:14-30 and the “Parable of the Talents.” If you read this through, you have two of the three men that doubled their talents when the master returned, but one of them buried his one talent and upon the masters return he still only had the one and didn’t even gain interest on it. For the first two men the master said well done my good and faithful servants and entrusted them with more and to the one who gained nothing, he referred to him as a lazy and wicked servant and cast him away. As Christians, if we want Christ to be the center of our lives, we need to use the talents Christ gave us for His glory and use them to bring growth to the Kingdom of Heaven. Talk to your youth and see what they think to how they are living out their lives.
1. Are they using their talents for Christ?
2. Are they using their talents for themselve?
3. Are they not using their talents at all? Seeing what they are and burying them!
Looking at the Sheep vs. the Goats and asking ourselves the question of what animal are we like when it comes to serving the least of these as depicted in the second half of Matthew 25. We need the eyes of Christ and we need that to lead us to serving Christ and to be more like Christ in our everyday lives.
Now we are starting a look at getting over the awkwardness and fear that comes with sharing one’s faith with strangers and even friends. We are taking a look at the PASSION one needs for the Gospel so that they are excited about what they are sharing and to make others passionate about the Gospel as well. We are going to be looking at what needs to happen for us to develop that passion and I hope that we go around not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.

Special Events and Recognition
Sunday June 5th- Senior Recognition Day at church. Fun slideshow to watch and we get to hear what our seniors are up to as they start another chapter of their lives and move forward to what God has in store for them. Parents, please provide me with 12-20 pictures to use for the slideshow and try to get a full range of pictures from childhood to now (embarrassing is ok….). Looking forward to this day!
Wednesday Night Youth Group WILL continue to meet Wednesday NIghts from 6:30-8:05 through the summer months. Attendance fluctuates more, but I figure even if just a couple show up, it is still worth having. If you have any questions about the schedule, please feel free to call me at the church or on my cell phone. Thank you and have a great day!!
DARE 2 SHARE UPDATE
This year at Dare 2 Share, we had the opportunity to take 18 students to Chicago at the end of Spring Break. We had terrific weather, good attitudes, fun time at the hotel, ate well, and get to attend a killer conference as we experienced what it meant to get “UN’ed” at the UN-Tour. Our kids really responded well to what was said and truly seemed engaged during worship and the drama. Talk to you kids about the conference and see what their favorite part of the conference was. Thanks for entrusting us with your kids and I hope that your kids had a great time and I pray we will have a larger group next year. The next tour date in Chicago will be April 13-14 at the Sears Centre Arena. The conference is entitled Game Day 2012. We Have great youth at THBC!
